Famous People Heritage Trail
One of the world’s greatest footballers, George Best, was born and raised in East Belfast. So was the author of ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’, CS Lewis and Van Morrison, one of contemporary music’s most distinctive singers, while East Belfast has also produced a wide range of authors, actors, poets, playwrights and industrialists.

Possibly the most famous son of East Belfast is George Best. Born on 22 May 1946 just off the Cregagh Road, he attended Grosvenor High School and rose to become one of football's greatest stars, helping Manchester United to European Cup success in 1968 at the age of 22. Van Morrison

Home to the famous shipbuilding company, Harland & Wolff, started in 1853. The White Star Line, with great ships like the Titanic, Olympic, and Oceanic, was by far H&W's most famous customer. The twin cranes, Samson and Goliath, still dominate the East Belfast skyline. Stormont Parliament Buildings
